If you are looking for an ice cream sundae recipe that is guilt free this one is as healthy as you can get
You can easily make really tasty real food ice cream, but only if you like banana. There may be other ways, and if you know of any please let us know
You can happily healthily eat this banana ice cream but probably not in large quantities because although there is fibre and no added sugar, it will still give you a big sugar hit.
If you don't like banana there is still the possibility of making delicious sorbet using only fruit.
The nearest you are likely get to a healthy ice cream or an ice cream sundae is one made from bananas - at home
And it is really really really easy to do and is AMAZING
In fact it's not exactly a recipe - the only ingredient is banana. You can of course add other stuff for different flavours and colours but if all you have is banana then it will still taste delicious
This is how simple it is to make banana ice cream
1 slice a banana. The older your banana is, the sweeter your ice cream will taste
2 freeze the slices in a single layer
This will take an hour or so. You want them completely frozen but not solid or your processor won't cope.
You can also freeze them in advance then take them out of the freezer to soften a little before processing
3 Blend. I use a stick blender, but you can use a food processor, liquidiser or smoothie maker etc
4 the ice cream may be too soft - if so return to the freezer for half an hour or so
5 Eat
There is absolutely no need to add sugar or sweetener
but of course...
An ice cream sundae needs a good mix of colours flavours fruit nuts and sauces
You can easily make different flavours and colours of y our ice cream by adding other fruits and powders such as berries, cocoa and matcha and also natural flavourings such as mint - or indeed real mint leaves - you'll have to experiment there because I've haven't tried tried it yet
For a pink colour add some strawberries or raspberries to the mix
For chocolate add a heaped teaspoon of cocoa per banana. I mean real cocoa, not drinking chocolate which has added sugar and sometimes milk solids
Darker berries such as blackberries, black currants and blueberries/bilberries will give a bluish purplish colour
But remember you will always still have the underlying flavour of banana too
Other flavours you could experiment with are rum and raisin, pistachio (or other nuts) lemon, and cookie crumbs
And of course you will need a sauce too
How to make banana ice cream in different colours and flavours
Just choose 2 or more flavours of ice cream and layer them in a glass with fresh berries and nuts. Then top with a fruity sauce
But remember - theres still a lot of sugar in this ice cream even if it is all natural - so keep your portion size to roughly the amount of fruit you could mangae to eat if it hadn't first been blended
Now go and enjoy your healthy treat
why is it called a sundae?
